|
Amends the Public School Code by adding that every school police officer must complete training as set forth by the Department of Education. The bill also states that a school police officer may carry a firearm if authorized by the court. The bill also states that a school resource officer has the duty to enforce good order in school buildings, on school buses and on school grounds in the school district. A school resource officer may exercise all the powers and duties granted to that officer as a commissioned law enforcement officer. The bill also provides for training by stating each school police officer, school resource officer and school security officer must complete eight hours of training within one year of the effective date of this section or within one year of the school resource officer's initial hiring date by the school district. The Department of Education would provide and fund training for school police officers, school resource officers and school security officers focusing on topics specific to the school setting. The Department would establish the training program within six months.
