DANVILLE — Bruce Earlston Sr. is the Danville Elks Citizen of the Year, Montour County Sheriff Ray Gerringer is Elk of the Year and Secretary Glen Klein is Officer of the Year. Outgoing exalted ruler Scott Davis presented the awards during the Elks’ installation dinner Monday night.

Earlston was recognized for promoting charities in Danville. His accomplishments range from helping to start the T-Railers Midget Football League to rescuing children from a flooded spillway.

“He sells fundraising tickets with a smile and coaches Little League, “ Davis said. Earlston has been employed by Danville’s public works department for 21 years.

Gerringer first received the Elk of the Year Award in 1988. This past year, he provided the lodge with the opportunity to expand its realm and its membership by sparking interest in the lodge to stray Elks, Davis said. He has “taken on the role as chairman of the Helping Hands raffle and has advertised the lodge and order to show our true nature of a charitable fraternity,” according to Davis, who concluded his reign as exalted ruler Monday night.

Gerringer has worked for the Montour County sheriff’s office for 33 years and has served as sheriff since 2004.

Klein, secretary for four years, received the Officer of the Year Award after his first year in office. He distinguished himself as an officer this past year with the transition of members from the Milton lodge, Davis said. Klein also assists with the Helping Hands raffle.
