Colorado Sheriff’s Deputy Fatally Shot

THORNTON, Colorado — A Colorado sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed after responding to a call, with a search for suspects sending a suburb north of Denver into lockdown.
The unidentified officer for Adams County was called to an alleged assault in Thornton Wednesday night before the killing, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officers chased one suspect behind a house, where one, identified by the Colorado Police Officers Foundation as 32-year-old Heath Gumm, was fatally shot in the chest.
“We are deeply saddened to learn that the deputy has died from injuries sustained in the shooting,” Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said in a statement.
